It has been a strange, rainy couple of months here in San Antonio, and as the weather takes an oh-so-subtle shift towards fall, I am running out of activities to keep my little ones occupied. We love chalk on the back porch, walks to the park, and diving in the pool, but that’s just not always feasible between this crazy weather and my even crazier work schedule. Working from home means there’s plenty of days where I simply need the girls to occupy themselves for an hour or two while I plow through my inbox.

That’s where technology comes in clutch for me as a mom. I know, I know, screen time turns our little angels into cocaine addicts (I literally read a study last week that came to that conclusion), but I do my best to

1) limit their total time and

2) choose wisely what they’re actually seeing on those screens.

This morning, while it howled and poured outside, we were cozy in Cora’s bedroom, reading a book and playing away on the iPad. Everyone wins!

Kidloland App

My current favorite iPad app for the girls is KidloLand, a subscription-type program where a one-year membership unlocks access to hundreds of separate activities, games, and songs. It’s age-appropriate for both my 4-year-old AND my 18-month-old, which is difficult to find in a single app. And I love that it encompasses everything my girls need to learn at this stage: shapes, colors, numbers, nursery rhymes, letters, the list goes on! I honestly wish I hadn’t spent so much on individual apps before discovering this one because it knocks the rest out of the park!

So on this rainy day, and many more to come, I feel good about letting the girls play with technology when it’s an educational experience with KidloLand. The platform is KID SAFE certified and also won the 2015 Brain Child Award from Tillywig Toy & Media Awards, so you can trust that the experts find it just as amazing as I do! You can find it to download for iOs or Android on their website here.

The iOS version is here.

Google Play store is here.

And Amazon Appstore is here.

To our delight the KidloLand provided just enough distraction to pass the time until the worst of the storm passed this morning, and we were able to head outside for a round of puddle-jumping to burn off some energy! I think childhood is all about balance, and technology is going to be a part of their lives no matter what. It’s just my responsibility to make sure the technology they do us is safe, fun, and educational!

Speaking of FUN, if you want to try the app for yourself, enter to win a three-month subscription down below! KidloLand is choosing FIVE lucky winners, so your odds are pretty great! Good luck!

A
