Is anyone else just PUMPED that October is finally here? For me, August and September are a horrible dead period of no major holidays to celebrate, so October marks the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year! Now the whirlwind of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas can begin and I love it! Cora is finally old enough to really look forward to things with me, and Issa’s reactions to each festivity are going to be priceless now that she’s a maniac toddler! We wasted no time getting into the spirit this year, and headed to the San Antonio Zoo for the kick-off of their ZOO BOO spectacular on October 1st!

Since Haute in Texas is a member of the #ZooTroop, we were treated to some private pumpkin painting with fellow San Antonio bloggers, and the girls had a blast! We also brought along our neighborhood’s official favorite babysitter, Ashtyn, to help me out for the day! I’m not going to give out her contact info, because she is so awesome I want to keep her for myself! Or because she’s still in high school and probably wouldn’t appreciate that violation of her privacy. I’ll let you decide. 😉 She did a fantastic job painting with the girls, getting messy herself, and helping me keep them rounded up while I Instastoried and Snapchatted the whole day!

After we painted our glorious pumpkins and had some close encounters with a snake and a sun conure, the Zoo’s hornbills received a tasty treat of a few of our Jack-O-Lanterns! The girls’ particular pumpkins are actually going to be placed around the zoo for decoration, so be on the lookout for one that says, “CORA” and one that is just crazy red all over. That’s Issa’s. 😉 But it was so entertaining to watch the hornbills dive into the other kids’ pumpkins and get into the Halloween spirit!

The best part of Zoo Boo, to me, is wandering around the zoo and enjoying the animals with hidden Halloween surprises around every corner. If you think you’ve seen all there is to see at the Zoo, I can promise you Zoo Boo will reignite your excitement. Plus there are trick or treat stations strategically placed to keep even the youngest animal lovers entertained. The event is going on every Saturday and Sunday in the month of October, and it’s included in general admission! So don your costumes, get your treat bags ready, and prepare for a spooktacular time!

More details for Zoo Boo can be found on the San Antonio Zoo’s website here. But below is a quick overview of the activities:

  • Hay Maze and Monster Mash begin at 9 a.m.
  • Pumpkin Painting and Halloween games will begin at 11 a.m.*
  • Costume Contests will be held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Trick or Treating throughout the zoo starts at 4 p.m.
