While we were traveling in Israel, I really let my diet fall by the wayside. There were just too many fresh pastries to sample, too many hummus and pita bread snacks offered my way. I couldn’t resist sampling the amazing cuisine, and it didn’t help that we had a small kitchen in our apartment to make home-cooked meals a bit haphazard. Therefore, when I heard San Antonio’s Tim the Girl was offering Whole30 meal delivery through her new venture The Good Kind, I couldn’t wait to get back to the Lone Star State.

You see, I am the classic cliche of knowing what a proper diet looks like, and just lacking the willpower to execute it. I don’t want to do the grocery shopping, I don’t want to do the prepping, and I very rarely feel like cooking. I realize I sound supremely lazy, but it’s really just a thousand other things I would rather be doing. Eat to live, don’t live to eat right? Why waste brain space on what I’m going to eat that day?

Whole30

The problem is, as you may have anticipated, that when I don’t put time or effort into my diet I end up eating like crap. That is, of course, unless I have someone delivering delicious meals to my doorstep. Which is exactly what happened the day after we landed from our trip to Nova Scotia. There they were, two bags stuffed to the brim with breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next three days. All Whole30, all individually portioned. We decided to do the couples version to go through withdrawals together, so we stacked our his and hers meals side by side in the refrigerator and prepared to start our journey to better eating the next day.

Whole30

I’m happy to say our 30 days concluded last week and we survived. Not only did we make it out alive, we dropped weight and felt better than ever. I lost around seven pounds, and definitely felt my bloating and indigestion were down to zilch. I tend to be the type to get a “nervous stomach” quite easily, but every meal hit the spot without making me feel uncomfortable. As for the variety, we enjoyed spaghetti squash for a dinner “pasta fix”, chopped salad for lunch, and miniature quiches for breakfast. Deliveries came Monday and Thursday, and the meals alternated so nothing became monotonous.

Whole30

Now, full disclosure, I did still allow myself my morning coffee and just a SMIDGE of almond milk creamer. Like literally I measured out a tablespoon of creamer. I’m human, ok! I even shared a few of Orlando’s meals with the girls when he was busy, and I saved my extra meals for the Monday off before our delivery would come that afternoon. I felt my body resetting itself to have a more natural energy cycle, and I was able to snack in between meals with a piece of fruit or veggies.
