Now that the spring sunshine is beginning to bring about our beloved Texas heat, it’s time to bust out the sandals and our fresh manicures to be in tip-top show-off shape. I came across a new collection by OPI at Ulta a few weeks ago that is inspired by Texas cities and culture, and knew I had to review it for our blog.  Most of the shades make sense for Texas. There are rich earthy tones, and traditional purples, reds and pinks, with a few stand out blues that remind you of our big, gaping Texas blue skies. While there is literally a shade for everyone in this single collection, I’m going to tell about my favorite shades from the set.

This lovely shade is called San-Tan-Tonio, and it’s currently my  new favorite.  It applies smoothly to the nail, and has good staying power (My nails always manage to begin chipping approx. 5 minutes after I’ve left the salon, but I’ve yet to chip since getting my manicure on Monday). The color on the nail is almost the color of a mocha latte, with taupe undertones.  I try to avoid bright colors on my nails because I hate feeling like my nails don’t match my outfits for the week, so I think this color will be a long-held preference for the months to come.

In summer weather, purple is my favorite shade for a pedicure. It’s still a safe shade for me, as I tend to wear colors that blend with the purple gently, but it’s just out there enough that I feel like I’m being adventurous. This shade is a divine shade of dark fuchsia, that has a lovely sheerness to it in its application. It has a sparkle-free color, which works well because the shade is just bright enough that the sparkles might be a bit too much (that’s safe K, talking). This shade is considered “sorbet-like” by OPI, and it does in fact have a creaminess to it on the nail.

I suppose it makes sense that in a collection of simply revamped favorites, the shade for Austin would be a bright, shimmery turquoise.  This color is indeed high on the shine, the color is similar to the shade of a dark teal car you might see. The only thing this color has to do with Austin is that it’s just a little weird. I’d say this is one to pass on for the fingers if you’re a working girl, but a great color for the toes in any case.

This shade is Texas-perfect! On the nail, it’s almost an electric red. It applies smoothly and sheerly, so it’s perfect for layering to obtain a desired intensity. This is a great color for the nails and the toes, as it really comes off as a traditional red with a bit of an edge. At first I struggled to see the Texas spin on it, but this color brought about images of Dolly Parton in “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”, not that this nail color is particularly slutty, but just that it’s very Dolly. This is another sorbet shade, so be prepared for a level of flatness and creaminess on the nail.

There are also some rich browns, a bright orange and some soft silvers and blues in the Collection, so if my favorite  colors didn’t tickle your fancy, I’d definitely look into the others at OPI’s website. So, what do you think? Will you be purchasing  any of the colors form the Texas Collection? What did you think of the names and do you think the colors suited our state? Leave us a comment!
