Last year for my birthday, my then-fiancé, now husband, went a little overboard. He surprised me with a red, patent leather Valentino bow tote that I had just casually pointed out one day while window shopping. Never in a million years would I have thought he would have gone back to the store, hunted a saleswoman down, and kept his purchase under wraps that long! Unfortunately, I also never thought I would have such a hard time finding outfits to pair it with. It’s such a bold, blood red, that it’s going to compete with any bold patterns or colors in my outfit. In addition, due to the ridiculous price tag (I told you he went overboard) I hardly feel like my outfits are worthy of such a luxe item on my elbow. Thus, this year for my birthday I’m on the hunt for the perfect red heel or flat that will compliment my Valentino darling, without competing with it.

Can I just say out of all these precious pieces of footwear, the sandals are probably my favorite? They just look so yummy, and the satin ribbon would feel like a dream against my skin. My only regret is the hefty price tag on most of these, but the look is what I’m after. In a perfect world, I would love to find a similar style to the Dolce & Gabbana pair that look more expensive than they are. The popular style tip is to always mix expensive signature items with great bargain finds, right? This birthday, you might find me doing just that.
