The last time I stepped inside The Do Seum, the brand-new children’s museum here in San Antonio, I had to wear a hard hat.  You may remember the virtual construction tour I took you on then, when a lot of the exhibits were just ideas in the minds of construction managers.  Fast forward to today, and we’re just a few weeks from the grand opening on June 6th! I felt like a kid again walking through the doors and smelling the fresh paint, and I know you and your family are going to love it as well.  Take another photo tour with me today!

As soon as you step inside the grand entrance, you can tell this is a place for kids.  Funny mirrors, bright skylights, and an underground gift shop get your imagination cranking right away.  How cool are those lights, too? I can already picture taking Cora for the first time and hearing her gasps of delight at every corner.

Perhaps my favorite part of the Do Seum is it’s flexibility for all ages.  There’s a robotics center for big kids, a light and sound lab for elementary kids, and then there’s Little Town for the tiniest of tots.  I can remember playing in museums as a child and loving when they featured life-like exhibits like this where you could play pretend in a grocery store, airplane, and miniature streets.  There’s even space in the center with a ball pit and activities for the youngest of visitors.

The Do Seum doesn’t just feature hands-on exhibits.  The “Imagine It!” section encourages children to create their own adventures with just their imaginations, and I love that it encourages creating fun instead of expecting it to be prepared for you.  I kid you not, I think we could spend an entire day in each of these exhibits with all the intricate planning that has gone into them.

There’s an outdoor component to the Do Seum as well, with an obstacle course and a water center that will allow kiddos to burn off some steam during the summer months.  The opposite side of the museum features a more nature-based adventure, but I think both will be fun for all ages.

This isn’t even our entire group of mom bloggers that came out for the tour that day, so you can tell San Antonio is excited for our new place for children!  Charter memberships are on sale now, and you can bet my family is going to be signing up right away! Be sure to schedule a time for your family to visit the Do Seum on opening weekend June 6th and 7th; they are expecting a big crowd so advanced registration is preferred!   Let me know when you go, we’ll meet you there! 😉

XO,

A
