My mother was an avid Clinique user when I was growing up, so I always associate their products with her no-nonsense, practical approach to beauty.  I love that they always have sensitive skin in mind, even though I don’t necessarily consider mine to be.  It just makes you feel better knowing that you’re not using a harsh product that may be causing more harm than solving any real issues.  My pregnancy skin has been riddled with breakouts (thank you hormones) and it’s left me with angry blemishes that are challenging my powder foundation and concealer on a daily basis.

Naturally, I reverted back to that momma-knows-best mentality, and headed off to the Clinique counter at our Liverpool store here in Mexico.  They set me up with a skincare system that has been working wonderfully with my newly oily skin (again, shout out to the pregnancy hormones), but the most magical thing I was sent home with that day was Clinique’s Acne Solutions Post Blemish Formula.  It’s a tiny, unassuming little tube, but it has worked wonders on the vicious red blotches around my mouth and chin.

A few words to the wise: definitely wait until AFTER a breakout is resolved before starting to use this little baby.  I tried to get a head start on some blemishes and it felt as though I was simply prolonging the breakout by using too many products, too soon.  Also, various comments on Clinique’s site confirm my experience that this really works best with recent blemishes, not those scars from puberty.  I definitely suggest using this under your makeup as well, it really helps to immediately diffuse the blemish and you can feel good knowing it’s oil-free.  If you’re still struggling with the occasional breakout and don’t want to be left with unpleasant reminders, I highly suggest investing in a little Clinique goodness.

What do you use to deal with the effects of a breakout?  Any homemade remedies out there?
