I have never been known as the “girl with the good hair”. After typing that, I realize it could now be misunderstood as a Beyoncé reference, but I don’t mean I could go by the name Becky by any means. I’m just saying I have never had thick, lustrous hair that girls covet and boys want to run their hands through. Ever since going blonde almost two years ago, though, I have had to put much more effort into upkeep of my locks. Whether or not that has resulted in “good hair” status though remains to be seen. All I know is it flatters my skin tone much better, but it is undeniably much higher maintenance.

The best shampoosfor blondes.(1)

My first step in taking care of my newest hue was to determine the shampoo and conditioner combo that would help the color last and the shine keep shimmering. Now that I’m well into my journey of trial and error, I thought I’d save you the trouble and share my top three picks for the best shampoos for blondes:

1. Biolage Matrix Advanced Fiberstrong Shampoo and Conditioner

This is my latest love. My hairstylist in Cancun recommended it to me, and I love how silky it make my hair feel. The constant color treatments make me terrified of completely frying my ends, and this formula is specifically made for fragile hair. The star-studded line up of ingredients includes Intra-Cylane, bamboo and ceramide. I’ve also noticed I don’t need a lot of product to get a full later and deep condition going, so it’s lasted me quite a while already. Nothing is more annoying that spending a pretty penny on expensive products only to have them run out within a week, but that’s not the case with this line.

2. Alterna Caviar Repair Instant Recovery Shampoo and Conditioner

My friend Racquel actually recommended this brand to me almost a year ago, and with her long, luminous blonde hair I figured it was absolutely a must-try. The formula is chock full of nutrients to rebuild the hair strand after coloring damage, and it’s free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. Plus it has actual caviar extract in the bottle, which may or may not be good for my hair but it’s pretty darn cool. 😉 My one complaint, and it may just be that I’m an idiot, is the bottles are rather difficult to open and dispense the product. I noticed a few other reviews on Amazon said the same thing, however, so perhaps I’m not a total weakling.

3. R+Co Cleansing Conditioner

R+Co Analog Cleansing ConditionerThis final product is the perfect combination of simple and stupendous. My hairstylist in San Antonio, Cyndi at Alta Moda Salon, recommended it because she knows how fine and thin my hair is. Any sort of product that weighs it down just makes even the most terrific styling attempts fall flat.  So on days when I feel like my hair needs a bit of a detox, I reach for this cleansing conditioner. It’s two products in one, but don’t be fooled, this isn’t your drugstore shampoo and conditioner combo. It’s a foamy, almost mousse-like substance that glides through your hair like silk yet leaves it light as air. And, as an added bonus, it’s the fastest way for me to get in the shower, get clean, and get on with my day.

The best part about all these options? Every single one is color safe, won’t turn your blonde strands brassy, and can keep you going back to the hair salon for more highlights, lowlights, whatever-lights, without the fear of irreversible damage. Life as a blonde isn’t always carefree, but a good shampoo and conditioner can certainly go a long way to making your hair care routine as breezy as your preferred shade of platinum. If you’re a golden girl all the way, let me know your favorite products in the comments!
