Did you know the slide at The Doseum is insanely fun? Did you know that it’s also insanely tiring to climb up it 400 times in one day? I discovered both to be true a few weeks ago when we shot this super fun family photo shoot for San Antonio Magazine! It was such a blast to do this with Cora, Issa, Orlando and I all together for one big session. And I have been dying to share the news with you all!

Since this was their Summer Fun issue, the lovely folks at San Antonio Magazine approached us with the idea of showing our family having a blast at The Doseum, which just so happens to be one of our favorite spots in the city. Cora and I had both never been down the big slide though, so I was a little nervous to see how she would do with a challenge this enormous. For that matter, I was a little worried if I would fit through the darn thing! When the day finally arrived, Cora was in a great mood and took a few trips down the slide as the photographers set up. When she had to use the restroom, I said I’d take her and we could get going with the photo shoot as soon as we got back.

Wouldn’t you know I accidentally pinched her finger in the bathroom door and actually broke skin it got her so bad! If you have a four-year-old, if you’ve ever been around a four-year-old, you know they are a roller-coaster of emotions. One tiny thing can set them off and the whole day is shot. As soon as I heard her scream and realized her finger had been pinched, I thought for sure the whole photo shoot was going to fall apart. But my big, brave little girl let me talk her into going to see the “doctor”, also known as a Doseum employee who was kind enough to bring us a first aid kit and dramatically make sure her finger was all better. Praise the Lord she was a) physically ok, and b) still in the mood to take some pictures. After promises of ice cream and candy, of course.

The hilariously perfect part was one of the shots they wanted (and ended up using) was of me coming down the slide and Cora acting as if she was upset because it was her turn, or that mom was hogging the kids’ playground. Once again, for a four-year-old looking cranky or moderately irritated is like the easiest job in the world. Ha! We kept saying, “Great, Cora, yes, just a little more upset!” and she was nailing it! It was hysterical. But of course you can see by her face above when she saw the photo that she loved being a part of it. And the pinched finger turned out to be just fine, nothing a Band-Aid couldn’t fix.

I should also add Issa was a part of the shoot as well, but her job was just to hang out and maybe give a smile or two. She was also welcome to poop her pants if need be. All in all, an extremely easy day for a 14-month-old, and I’d say my kids are basically ready for Hollywood. 😉 Orlando was also a trooper, but I can’t remember if he was rewarded with ice cream and candy, too. Perhaps just an adoring look from his wife as he handled injured toddlers, sweaty babies, and still managed to look great for photos. If this whole shoot doesn’t perfectly summarize our summers, I don’t know what does! 😉
