When I was younger, I absolutely hated wearing dresses with flats.  I thought it made my legs look dumpy, my feet look ginormous, and could never find the right combo of casual/fancy attire to make it work.  Even now, it may not be as flattering for my body type as wearing a dress with heels, but I’m too tired and too busy as a mom of two to care.  I do, however, love this Club Monaco dress and DSW espadrille flats.  I’ve worn the shift dress with heels and a blazer, or flip flops and a messy bun, and it’s versatile enough to do the job.  And the flats I have absolutely worn out in airport after airport because they’re perfect to slip on and off in security.  The snakeskin print and leather toe make it a modern update to an otherwise basic look.

You’re probably sick of seeing these Ray-Ban aviators on my Instagram and Snapchat (user: hauteintexas if you want to follow my shenanigans) by now, but I can’t stop wearing them in Cancun.  Especially now that it’s Spring Break season, I blend right in with the tourists.  Not sure if that’s a good thing, but they’re fun so I don’t try to overthink it.  The mirrored lens trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon, and of course pink was my top choice since it’s my favorite color.  I also snagged this dot bracelet from Seasons With Allie, but it’s currently sold out on their website.  Keep an eye on it if it comes back in stock though, mine makes me happy every time I wear it!

Is a top knot one of the hardest things to pull off or what?  Every time I try to pull one off, I instantly revert to my volleyball days and just try to do it as quickly and tightly as possible.  But I think the trick is to leave it a little loose, with a few tendrils framing your face so it doesn’t look too harsh.  If you know of a great YouTube tutorial or magic secret though, let me know!  It also makes me a little nostalgic to see these photos because I was still wearing my red string in honor of my friend Cassie who was expecting her second daughter.  You might remember our hippie mama group threw her a blessingway a few months ago, and now that her little one Olivia is here safe and sound we’ve all cut our red string bracelets off! Time, it is a flying, I tell you.

As always, many thanks to Christina with Christina Dianne Photography for the photos! We shot this last image in front of an Indian restauarant, but her eye for framing made it look so cool! Where are you headed for Spring Break or where did you go? Let me know in the comments!

XO,

A
