discover and learn activity center

It’s been a funny thing, watching Cora and Issa become more and more infatuated with each other over the past four months.  Although, I must admit their bond as sisters started long before Issa was actually here.  Cora and I talked about her baby sister almost constantly.  What she would be like, how big she would be, even how she was going to be needing “chi-chis” for food.  Leave it to a toddler to point that part out.  But what I wasn’t prepared for was after Issa arrived.  Cora fell into her role as a big sister so seamlessly, it was almost disconcerting.  Everyone says your first born will feel huge to you after you have your second, but instead of growing physically she just felt so mature to me.

Granted, she has her moments where we enter full blown melt down mode because baby sister needs to eat and Cora wants a cheese stick right. this. instant.  But for the most part, she has show more love and affection towards Issa than I ever could have imagined.  The more interactive that Issa gets, the more fun it is for me to watch.  That’s why I was so excited when Issa was finally big enough to hang out in the Discover & Learn Activity Center that Little Tikes sent us!  She has turned out to really love being upright, just like Cora was when she was this age, so it wasn’t long before she was completely over laying in the newborn lounger or bassinet.  The little seat in the activity center is supportive enough that she doesn’t have to worry about slouching over, and of course it adjusts in height as our big girl just keeps on growing.

The best part about the activity center, though, is how it brings together Cora and Issa.  Big sister will push the little train set around the tracks while Issa squeals with delight, and then it has all sorts of interactive features that Cora can push to show her little sister.  Now here’s the best part: after Issa outgrows the activity center, we can remove the train and tracks so the girls can continue to play even after the baby stage is over.  That’s where the real fun will begin, I can imagine, when my two girls can play pretend, build forts, and slay dragons.

That sisterly love is a powerful thing, and I hope that Cora and Issa always stay just as close as they are today.  I know in my last Ask A episode I touched on how I would feel if they argued during the teenage years, but even when they’re just a few months down the road they might start to fight over toys or whose turn it is to help mom mop the floors.  You never know, that could happen. 😉 But either way, the beautiful thing about siblings is you’re stuck with them for life, so you better learn to love them.  And then, by the grace of God, I think you learn to love the rest of the world just a little bit better.

XO,

A
