As San Antonio’s homegrown franchise phenomenon, we know Massage Heights provides affordable, convenient, and professional massages all over the city. But did you know they also offer facials as well? Haute in Texas intern Rebeca recently stopped by their Leon Springs location for some pampering! Read below to find out how her experience went:

As a first timer, I was really excited but completely clueless about getting my first facial at Massage Heights. But as soon as I walked in the doors, everyone was friendly, attentive, and kind. The air smelled of lavender, and the surround sound system was softly playing a soothing tune. My body instantly relaxed, and I felt calmer before anyone even greeted me.

A very sweet woman named Selma stepped through the spa doors and announced she would be taking care of me that day. We stepped into a dark room that smelled like fresh pines, and she excused herself from the room for a moment while I got in the bed and under the silky covers. (Did I mention that the bed was heated?!) After I got cozy and warm under the covers, Selma walked back in and described to me the treatment that I was going to get. She gently explained microdermabrasion is a treatment where they use a minimally invasive instrument: it’s a small circle that has a sandy texture and the middle of the circle functions as a suction. Microderm, as it’s called for short, helps with age spots, stretch marks, scars, and can even improve hyperpigmentation!

Before we got started on the facial, Selma inspected my skin to make sure it wasn’t too sensitive since microderm can be a little harsh on sensitive skin. Can you believe that she was able to tell my skin was not very sensitive (except for my cheeks) just by looking at it?! It was very impressive. She rinsed my face and neck and opened up my pores with a steamer in order to get to all that junk that has been in my face for 22 years. She mentioned that she would not be able to get everything out in the first try but at least the blackheads that were on the surface would be gone. I appreciated her honesty and knowing what type of results to expect!

She then moved on to perform the microderm procedure, and used that neat instrument on my face and neck to get rid of all the dead skin. When she was finished, my skin did feel sensitive, specially on my cheeks, but she soon applied a face mask made out of fresh oatmeal. It not only smelled amazing but it felt so fresh and cool, which calmed my skin down. After she rinsed the face mask off, I touched my face and it felt like a baby’s face — it was incredible. She finished off by cleansing my face with a wet cloth and a re-hydrating toner to remove any dead skin that was left behind. She also gave me samples of rich moisturizers that I have been using for these past few days because my skin is still a little sensitive.

I can tell you that my first experience getting a facial will not be my last. I loved the experience and had no idea all the benefits involved in getting a facial until now. I have always been good about taking care of my body by watching what I eat and going to the gym, but it seems like I have been neglecting my skin. With all the new information that I obtained during this experience I will definitely continue to go and get facials at Massage Heights. If microderm is something you have never tried, I recommend you go and try it for yourself, at least once! I am in love.
