Chanel’s theme, like Givenchy and Versace, also found itself under the see in a distinctly aquatic tone, sans all reference to the nautical. By that, I mean there were no sailor stripes to be had, but instead everything was peachy, corally, seafoamy goodness, with splashes of lighter than air blacks, greys and silvers. There was limited use of Coco’s signature multi strands of pearls, instead, pearls were used as buttons, belts, dress straps and hair jewels. I loved the use of the translucent swimsuit cover-ups, that resembled the boxiness of Chanel’s tweed jackets, and the short-suit sets, which we’ve seen a multitude of this fashion month.  And of course, Lagerfeld, doesn’t do anything low-key, as he had musician and fashion muse Florence Welch rise out of an oyster shell (sensing a Birth of Venus theme here again…) to perform. It was all so distinctly Chanel, like a dear, old friend giving you a big tweedy, pearly hug.
