Do you have that one item in your closet that’s your “if I just lose 5 pounds I’ll wear it” sort of thing?  It’s supposed to be motivation, but it really just ends up kind of depressing you every time you see it and realize you’re still not quite ready for it?  This dress is one of those pieces for me, and I finally felt comfortable enough to wear it the other day to the Neiman Marcus fall fashion trends presentation.  Not because I’ve recently dropped a significant amount of weight, but because I just decided that it was too cute to be left hanging sadly in the closet.  They say in business you should just start, because there’s never going to be a perfect time for anything.  I’m starting to believe you should just start wearing the clothes you want to wear, because there’s never going to be a perfect time for that either. Carpe diem, am I right?

I’ve also been wearing this fringe crossbody bag everywhere as the seasons have been shifting.  In summer it functions as an almost festival-wear type piece, and in fall it’s a bohemian ode to the ’70s.  Either way, it fits everything I need and nothing I don’t, and it looks trendy without taking it too far.  Of course at my height I have to wear it on the longest possible setting to avoid looking like an overpacked tourist, but it works.

The ’70s trend for this fall means I’ve also been experimenting with parting my hair in the middle again, although I think it’s actually going to stick this time.  It seems it only works for me if my hair is long enough to tuck behind my ears and go for a sleek, sophisticated look.  When my bangs were still flopping in front last fall I looked like a kindergartener who tried to cut her own hair. No bueno.

Throw in some minimal jewelry and this outfit was good to go.  I also used my FAVORITE Revlon Lip Butter in a peachy hue for this look to tie everything together.  What do you think? Fun, right?!

XO,

A
