One Year of Independence

This July, the month of independence, marks one year since I walked away from my corporate career and decided to venture out on my own.  One year since I took a leap of faith and trusted that what I really wanted was the ability to spend more time with my babies and pursue my passions.  One year since I decided that there is no better time than the present to make a move, and live my own adventure.

It’s been far more difficult than I imagined, similar to how I thought raising kids and juggling a career would be easy before I actually became a mom.  Entrepreneur life is not for the faint of heart, I can now tell you that much.  I’m nowhere near where I thought I’d be at this point, but it feels like I’m right where I’m supposed to be.

I always tell people when they ask how things are going that I’m “as busy as I want to be”.  And that’s true.  To me, it’s the best perk of being your own boss that you can pick and choose to make sure the projects you’re working on are only the ones you feel the most passionate about.  Because who wants to spend time away from their kids unless it’s absolutely, 100% worth it?

I love that I’m able to live this life.  It’s a testament to my God who is GOOD, my husband who believes in me, my clients who trust me, and my friends and family that have had my back from day one.  This sense of independence is a gift.  It’s a benefit to living in a country that celebrates the little guy, the small business owner, the underdog.  Lord knows there are plenty of countries in the world where a woman owning a business wouldn’t even be a possibility.  So this month, this 4th of July, I’m thankful for America.  I’m thankful for all of you.  Here’s to another year of independence and chasing the American dream, whatever that means to you.

XO,

A
