Recently a friend posted on her Facebook that she had tried a sock bun, and I realized I had never given it a shot.  Yes, I am just now getting around to trying a fad that has been popular for quite a bit now.  Remember, I’m a mom, I’m allowed to be late now.  Aforementioned friend shared this video, which helped me tremendously.

Her hair is super long and thick, which makes her bun HUGE.  My hair was long, albeit thin, the first time I tried it and I was surprised how big the bun turned out.  Today I tried it post-hair-chop and this is what happened:

My favorite part about the sock bun has got to be how nice it is to have your hair out of your face for the whole day!  Especially since my hairstylist gave me bangs that I wasn’t exactly expecting (Read: I live in Mexico and I don’t speak good enough Spanish to understand “bangs” before I already have them), it’s so lovely to be able to pull them away from my face and still look decent.  A few tips:

1.  Choose a dark colored sock if you have dark hair, to hide any peek-a-boo sock if necessary.

2.  The thickness of the sock also plays a role in how large your bun will be, so choose carefully.  In the picture above I’m using a (clean) black, thin, no-show sock of my husband’s, and the bun is still that big!  When I used his (also clean) ankle basketball sock, it was MASSIVE.  Just a heads up.

3.  Also, notice I’m only sacrificing DH’s socks.  Jaja.

Send me pics if you try the sock bun!

XO,

A
