Hi everyone- this is K– I wanted to give a quick introduction to our guest blogger for NYFW, Parson’s Fashion Marketing Student, Stephanie Kornblum. As a New York fashion gal, she’s had a first hand perspective on some of the shows this week, and I thought she would be a great addition to our site! Give her a big welcome! XO, K

Take it away, S…

The second I saw Prabal Gurung’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection I was immediately blown away. Breathtaking purple prints were perfectly accompanied by white, beige and black accents. In my opinion, Gurung is no longer an up-and-coming or emerging designer, he has officially become a fashion staple.

Inspired by Nobuyoshi Araki’s Sensual Flowers series (and I’m sure his Kinbaku collection as well), Gurung collaborated with a printmaker in London to create the florals that decorated his fabrics which proved to be a complete hit. The designer also carried on the kinky bondage trend seen on the Autumn/Winter catwalks, with pieces from Zana Bayne Leather, even tweeting a picture showing a leather belt titled “bondage and flowers” before the show. Gurung killed it with this collection, I for one can’t get enough of the sheer cut outs, and leather mixed with soft florals. The collection is soft and sensual, but with enough daring details to bring his collection to a grand, yet tasteful level of badass. I personally loved the collection, but Gurung received mixed reviews from the fashion elite. What do you think of his collection?
