Earlier this month my sister-in-law Amanda asked me how she thinks she should wear florals this Spring. While I’m usually not a floral girl, myself, lately I have been all about them! However I hate wearing them just as is. I suppose I enjoy the contradictions of a little toughness or quirkiness thrown in. So here are the ways in which I will be wearing my flowers this spring and summer.
For the quirky girl, I think denim shorts or culottes would be a hit all around. This look is really versatile too, as the tops can be easily tucked in. A denim shirt will match any floral you find as it will act as a neutral, just in the same way your denim jeans do. I love bringing out the flower color with a few accessories like the red sandals and the coral necklace. Pair this with some classic aviators and a sturdy brown leather bag and you’re good to go for a day of shopping by the beach.

I know that military styles are a bit on the way out, but I love what they do for this floral dress. This dress is straight up sugary sweet with a cherry on top so it needs a bit of a tough contradiction to bring it into this year and keep it from looking a bit too Blair Waldorf (unless you’re into that kind of thing, but I’m just a total Serena). I think this McQueen jacket is just amazing and perfectly roughs up this dress, while still keeping it feminine and fitted. I love the idea of pairing it with a brown motorcycle boot, which will keep the bad-ass level high (as well as the comfort-level) but you could also choose to pair this with a studded flat to girly it back up a bit. This studded cuff looks tough, but its sweet turquoise and gold are more reminiscent of a candy shop than a roller derby. The pop of turquoise also seems random, but I think it totally works.
