There’s nothing quite like a runway show to get one excited for the season, and appropriate dressing it requires, to come. Fall is especially exciting for fashionistas because we can layer, indulge, and saturate our outfits with a breezy air of elegance. The recent Neiman Marcus Fall Trend Report did not disappoint in the “indulge” portion, with a bevy of Herve Leger, Roberto Cavalli, and Gucci, among others, strutting down the runway on statuesque darlings. As always, Ken Downing has compiled the trends that every woman will be eyeing as the temperatures cool, and this year he’s truly given us a stylish playground full of textiles, colors, and shapes to explore. Discover his top four trends below and happy shopping!

1. GOLD

The metallic is here to stay, as it’s foothold on fashion remains deeply embedded in the public eye. Look for a range of this shiny beauty in shoes, accessories, and even a floor length gown if you must. Because darling, I really think you must.

2. Mixed Berries

All shades of plum, purple, mahogany, and fuchsia are hitting the shelves, and women of every skin tone can pull it off. Pair a cashmere sweater with a bomber jacket and a bold lip to accentuate the rich and inviting colors. And fear not, purple will be big for Spring as well, Neiman Marcus PR Manager Xitlalt Herrera-Salazar predicts, so your investments will go the distance.

3. Fall Florals

A trend that’s been seen before, but pushed to new limits and in new textures. Think velvet flowers overlayed onto a sheer satin, unexpected detail work on a choker, or deep, dark colors that give the patterns a bold flavor. These aren’t your delicate springtime florals, these are flowers that make a statement.

4. Velvet

Crushed or perfectly pressed, the fabric is making a major comeback in every realm of personal style. It can be a sky-high pair of Prada platforms, or a bow tie choker topping off a delicate blouse. Herrera-Salazar says this velvet isn’t the heavy suffocating genre of years past. It’s light as a feather and bringing a sense of luxe to your look.

Now look who was my plus one for the evening at Neiman Marcus! Orlando got to tag along and play photographer for the evening, a task he is getting rather good at! The men’s fashion paralleled the women’s that night, much to his delight, and we had a great time having a date night outside our usual dinner-and-a-movie style. Everyone always asks if I dress Orlando for events, but the truth is he is just as stylish, if not more so than I am. He has always loved getting dressed up for as long as I’ve known him, so he may have been the only husband there, but he was actually thoroughly enjoying himself! Can’t wait to try out these trends together, and thank you as always to Xitlalt and Neiman Marcus for a lovely time!

XO,
