My entire life, my parents raised six kids without a minivan. There was a brief moment we had a Lumina that would make a super cool screeching beep every time the automatic door closed, but other than that they resisted. So far we’ve been able to avoid the dreaded minivan as well, but we are inching towards needing more space for our family. Not because another baby is on the way (let’s not start rumors) but because of soccer gear, yoga mats, groceries, all the random parts of life that we’re adding on top of four people.
It was perfect timing, then, when Chevy sent us a 2017 blacked out Tahoe to test for Cora’s first week of school. Hauling backpacks and baby sisters to elementary school is a lot of work, but the Chevy Tahoe was up to the task with three rows of seating, built-in DVD player, and onboard Wifi for easy surfing on the go. I loved all the customization features, including a secret compartment behind the console screen.
The Tahoe also has a handy safety feature called “Safety Alert Seat” that vibrates your seat anytime it senses you’re too close to an object, including other vehicles. The first time it happened I thought I broke the seat, the second time I was appreciative that it gave me an automatic heads up when I needed it most.
Perhaps my favorite tech feature was Apple CarPlay. It takes the iPhone features you’d want to access while driving and puts them on the vehicle’s display – so you can make calls, send/receive text messages and listen to your favorite playlists right from the touchscreen or by voice via Siri. I use talk-to-text on my iPhone all the time, but this makes it an even simpler option!
Overall the Tahoe was intuitive for my family’s needs, luxurious, and easy to drive. The girls were OBSESSED with the built-in DVD player, and it was hard to let it go. Thank you so much to Chevrolet for the temporary new wheels; it made the first week of school even more fun!
P.S. I received this vehicle complimentary for the week to facilitate this review. Don’t worry though, all opinions are my own!
