Of all the differences between Cora’s birth and Issa’s birth, one of the best changes was adding a birth playlist for Issa’s home birth. I thought it might feel a little forced to have the candles flickering, peaceful music playing, and dim lights, but it ended up feeling just heavenly. We picked a lot of songs that meant a great deal to us personally, and some we added at the suggestion of friends and family. Ironically, no one remembers the exact song that was playing when Issa was born, but even now, almost 4 months later, I will play it for her at random times and it almost always calms her down. I use it for myself to just to relax and get a little peace and quiet. So don’t feel like you have to use this ONLY if you’re a pregnant woman about to go into labor any day now. It works for the general population as well. 😉

You’ll notice a lot of these are Christian songs, but even if you’re not religious they are still really beautiful pieces in and of themselves. I found a LOT of them referenced not being alone, which is a comforting message whether you’re about to deliver a human or not. The French song by Celine Dion and the Spanish number by Carlos Baute will also make your baby super smart, I’m about 70% sure. 😉 And shout out to my friend Tori of The sTORIbook who recommended Heavenly Day by Patty Griffin! I’m not a huge country fan, but the sentiment behind this one really got to me, especially while pregnancy hormones were still pumping! Final fun fact: the Just You song I heard on a home birth video on YouTube, and it had me bawling. Seriously, I’m not sure the writer meant the song to be directed towards a child, but think of it in that context when you listen to it and just TRY not to cry.
