Desigual

If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting my mom, you probably saw her dressed in vibrant colors, with some fun flats to match, and bold accessories to play up the bright look. She has fun getting dressed, though she’s never considered herself a fashionista. I remember pawing through her costume jewelry as a young girl, and stealing a few handbags for myself here and there. When I was a teenager, I would have loathed the idea of having the same style as my mom, but it’s inevitably evolved to that point.

I love dressing simply, happily, and colorfully. One of the brands we have in common now is Desigual, and every time I see a store I send her a text to let her know I’m thinking of her. The brand was launched in 1984, three years before I was born, but it’s always been about FUN over fashion, much like my mom. She has picked up several pieces over the years, not the least of which is a black embroidered trench coat with Desigual’s signature bursts of color throughout. The older I get, the more I strive for my mother’s sense of style, and I’m proud she handed down an ease of dressing that enriches, never impairs, one’s life.

In an exciting turn of events for Desigual, they’ve recently hired a new Creative Director, Jean-Paul Goude, and his first collection for the brand hit the New York Fashion Week runway to much adoration in September. According to the NYFW summary, “Desigual is characterized by its different, optimistic and colorful designs. La Vida es Chula (Life is Cool) is Desigual’s slogan and way of looking at fashion and life. It’s an enthusiastic, positive and optimistic message that truly nails its colors to the mast. It operates in 109 countries and has 526 of its own stores, 8,000 multi-brand stores and 2,800 corner concessions in department stores.”

How fun are these shots from NYFW for Desigual’s most recent collection?! If you’re looking to add a little color and fun to your wardrobe, Desigual should be your first stop. Just take it from my mama. Love you Mom, and happy early birthday!
