A few weeks ago I overheard my sister telling someone that she’s been feeling extra-girly since finding out she’s expecting a baby girl in October. We’ve always been known in our family for having fierce, independent women, but makeup and frilly clothes weren’t our main focus growing up. We were too busy playing sports, debating the boys at school, and exploring the outdoors on the farm. So I started to realize that what she said was true for me, too: I wasn’t really in touch with my “girly-girl” side until I had girls of my own. Funny how that works, right?

Before having Cora, I knew she was a girl in my gut, even though we didn’t do a gender reveal or even find out for ourselves until I delivered. But I still thought she would be dressed in a whole range of colors, with pink just sprinkled in there every once in awhile. I thought I would teach her first and foremost to be strong, and then teach her to be sweet. But of course, the moment I realized she was a girl, it was like a switch was flipped inside of me. I can’t get enough pink, enough bows, enough adorable tutus to make dressing up every day oh-so-fun. I like to think I’ve embraced the full scope of being a “girl mom” from skinned knees to ribbons and curls.

Since Issa has arrived my favorite part of having TWO girls is dressing them alike. And there’s no better spot to do that in San Antonio than Moda Bebe. They’re right down the road from my house, in the Dominin Ridge shopping center, so every time I’m at Cuppencake for a cup of joe I swing by to see all their new arrivals in store. My last trip I was able to find these gorgeous Tutu Du Monde dresses for the girls to wear at my brother’s wedding rehearsal and dinner. Since Cora was going to be a flower girl the next day with her own special dress, I wanted to take the chance to have them dress alike for the evening before at least!

Moda Bebe is actually owned by my good friend and hairdresser, Cyndi Garza, and she’s stocked the store with exclusive children’s designers you can’t find anywhere else. Brands like Tutu Du Monde, Versace, Nununu, and many, many more. If you are looking for your kid to stand out amongst the sea of typical kid’s clothes, this is the spot. And now you know you’re supporting a local business owner who gives back to the community! Cyndi’s own son Braxton is always dressed head to toe in the most stylish duds, so that should be reason alone to stop by. I don’t know from experience, but I hear cool boy’s clothes are hard to come by. 🙂

What I DO know from experience is that my girls absolutely ADORE their dresses. They want to wear them to the park, the library, every where we go. In fact, every outfit we have from Moda Bebe receives compliments any time we go out. It’s just a great place to shop when you need that special occasion outfit, or when you want your kid to win Best Dressed in the elementary school yearbook. 🙂 Like I said, my “girly girl” instincts have come alive since having two girls, and they are definitely on high alert in Moda Bebe‘s shop!

So while I want a version of this dress in my size, I’ll have to settle for dressing up my girls any chance I get. I love that they are still at the age where they’ll let me, and I don’t even have to fight them to dress alike! Having girls has brought me to a whole new level of feminine ways, and a side of myself I didn’t really know existed. Truly, before kids I was not nearly as concerned with style, or doing my makeup. It may seem strange since I have almost zero time for myself now, but I guess I realized that there were going to be two little girls looking up to me, and I wanted to teach them ALL about being a lady, being a lioness, and feeling content with yourself, inside and out. Hopefully I can continue to do that AND dress them up in pretty clothes for years to come! 🙂

A
