It’s probably the worst kept secret in the world that I’m a huge proponent of breastfeeding.  I’ve written about it before here, here, and here.  And while I love having that one on one connection with my babies, I also feel slightly guilty that the hubs doesn’t always get as much quality time.  After all, if he had chi-chis I’m sure he would gladly use them to feed his babies, but alas, I’m the one toting them around.  Therein lies a problem, however, when I need to be somewhere sans Issa and she doesn’t exactly understand the concept of patiently waiting for one’s food yet.  Furthermore, there are so many overwhelming choices to make with bottles these days it can feel like a decision of such importance it’s akin to choosing what college your little one will someday attend.  And nipple confusion, don’t even get me started on the terror that presents.

Enter Minbie.  This bottle is an Australian brand that’s just starting to make it’s mark on American soil, and they’ve really thought this thing through.  The bottle is made of durable, scary-stuff-free glass.  It’s sized just right so baby can grasp (as you can see), and it’s only four ounces to avoid overfeeding, especially while baby’s tummy is so small.  But the real magic is in the nipple.  I can’t even explain it without sounding like a scientist, so I suggest you click here to check it out.  Essentially, the teat is shaped so it activates baby’s instinctive feeding technique that (prior to the Minbie) has only been possible with breastfeeding.  It’s as close as you can get to the real deal.  Issa took to it right away, and you can see from the photos that her mouth was latched on nice and wide, just like if she was nursing with me.  It makes me feel better knowing she’s getting a similar experience and won’t reject me when it’s time to feed next.  And the high quality materials appeal to the crunchy mama in me that doesn’t want my kid around a ton of cheap plastic.

But the best part of bottle feeding, of course, is that instant right up there.  Where Orlando gets the heart-melting, happy-tears-inducing moment of bliss when your baby looks up at you as if to say, “Hey, thanks for feeding me.  I really love you.”  It’s magic when you’re breastfeeding, and it must feel pretty good for him, too.  I’m just glad Minbie gave us the opportunity to give Orlando that chance while maintaining Issa’s nursing career.  Bonding time is important, whether you’ve got chi-chis or not, and a little breastmilk in a bottle is all it takes for Orlando to experience it too.
