So now that K and A have both dished on their faves from Milan Fashion Week, it’s time to narrow it down, weed out the wannabes, and fill you in on the absolute biggest trends we saw on the runway.

1.  70’s

You’ve heard us say it over and over again– that the 70’s are back in every way, well, minus Nixon, but hey- check out those gas prices! The 70’s looks at Milan Fashion week were much more understated, just barely referencing the trend at some shows. However at Gucci and Roberto Cavalli, the 70’s trend was super strong, with a focus on high waists, belted maxi’s and flashy accessories.

We thought it was unusual to pair rich brown velvet with white pants at the Gucci show, but it looks super chic! Love the big fur collar in a standout color and the wide brim hat!

The belted maxi-dress look at Roberto Cavalli brought back images of bell-sleeved peasant dresses of waifish hippies. However, these looks are certainly amped up with their animal prints and light-as-air chiffon.

2. Jewel tones as usual, and a hint-o-pink.

At Milan Fashion week, everything was still rich and luxe as ever in gorgeous jewel tones like at Alberta Ferretti and Bottega Venetta, respectively.

Amidst all of these rich colors, we saw pops of pink– not blush, not peachy nude, but real deal pinks and mauves, like at Missoni and Giorgio Armani.

Now we should add, don’t think that Milan is sending mixed messages about which colors to wear.   Instead, next fall, wear whatever colors you like! Freedom, right?

3. Thank You for Smoking.

Ok, it may be just because we’re pining for a pair right now, but cigarette pants seemed to be on every single runway this week.  We literally can only remember a handful of full-length pants, so the message is clear: stock up on this uber chic look now!  We especially love the way these pants work with flats, platforms, or anywhere in between.  Perfect for a mid-afternoon stroll or a Saturday shopping. (DISCLAIMER: Neither K or A smoke, nor do we support smoking.  If you don’t get the reference in the title, Google it)

This pair from Fendi is perfectly matched with a flowy blouse and strappy heels to keep the look from being too run down.  As a side note, can we just mention how fantastic the shoes at Fendi were as well?

Giorgio Armani gave us a slouchier version of a cropped pant, but we were fans nonetheless.  Paired with a fitted top or blazer as we see here, we love the movement the extra fabric created on the runway.  Mah-velous.

4. Sexy high-collared dresses, seriously.

When you picture a high neckline, so high it almost qualifies as a turtleneck, what comes to mind?  We’re guessing sex appeal didn’t pop into your head, but that’s exactly what designers in Milan dished out.  There were, of course, plenty of large cut outs right below the neck, but it was a trend, nonetheless.

We love the playfulness of this look from Versace, even down to the unusual pocket placement.  There were several versions of this dress pattern in the show, and we happened to adore all of them.

The more we look at this Alberta Ferretti number, the more we love it.  The boots toughen it up, and they look beautiful next to the detailing along the bottom of the dress.  And if you’re going to do a high neck, Ferretti demonstrates how to do it right, with ruching and a fab bow to top it all off.

There it is friends, one more Fashion Week in the books.  What did you think? Will pinks or cigarette pants be finding their way into your wardrobe this Fall?  We want to hear what you think!

XO,
