I’ll be 100% honest with you.  I didn’t even remember the Met Gala was last night until I started flipping through my Instagram feed and was slapped in the face by Anna Wintour herself.  Just kidding, but as a former fashion lover, it kind of felt like it.  This year’s exhibit is “Punk: Chaos to Couture” and the variations of how the attendees defined punk were mind-boggling.  Here are my favorites:

1. Sarah Jessica Parker

Everything SJP does is so couture, yet so effortless.  She has been fashion’s darling for forever it seems, and yet she keeps pushing the boundaries, keeps redefining her style, it’s amazing.  I always wonder how much of her styling comes from the influence SATC had on her, or if she would be like this no matter her career history.  Also, doesn’t Hamish Bowles just seem like the most adorable man ever?  Like he would be the type of friend to just make you feel so darn good about yourself you love him to pieces?

2.  Beyonce Knowles

At first glance, this dress was like, “Wow.”  Then the slit appears and THOSE BOOTS peeked through and it was like, “OH MY GOD”.  Well done, Queen B, well done.  Also, can I just say it is so inspiring to see mamas on the red carpet still looking vibrant and sexy?

3.  Gwyneth Paltrow

One of my favorite parts of the Met Gala is when we get to see the designers with their muses.  Walking side by side with their living, breathing designs.  This fella is Ryan Murphy, a TV writer, but nonetheless he looks lovely alongside GP.  I was chatting about her ensemble with Tanvi of tanvii.com (a fabulous blog which you must check out) about how classic her look is.  Like, someday, in 100 years, people will look back on her style the way we look at Audrey Hepburn now.  Someone from the future please come back to tell me I’m right.  🙂

4. Emma Watson

YES for taking risks.  YES for being a little edgy.  Emma Watson will, I fear, be forever trying to break the mold of goody-two-shoes Harry Potter, but if this is what she looks like post-mold, I’m all for it.

5.  Jennifer Lopez

Sure, it’s animal print and it’s a little predictable.  But gosh darn it, she looks so smoking, how could I not include her?  Lovely, Jenny from the block, just lovely.  In a drop-dead gorgeous kind of way.

As far as worst-dressed goes, I’m not going to name any names but there was a certain pregnant woman who is dating Kanye West that didn’t fair so well.  I totally get how hard it is to pull off looks when you feel massive, but head-to-toe floral print was just NOT the way to go.  Poor, poor Kim.  I’m not ashamed to admit I actually like her, but this just missed the mark in so many ways.  As a side note, does Kanye look a little demonic here, or is that just me?

What do you think? Am I right? Wrong? Who were your picks for best/worst of the night?
