If you’ve been reading along here for a while, you may remember I went to The Makeup Show in Dallas last fall and had a BLAST. There were amazing workshops with tutorials on everything from eyebrow shaping to contouring. The makeup brands attending were top notch and they were all offering their products at steep discounts. We’re talking up to 40% off NARS, Smashbox, Make Up Forever, the list goes on and on. I also loved getting the chance to interview James Vincent, celebrity makeup artist and Director of Artistry & Education for The Makeup Show.
The great news is The Makeup Show is returning to Dallas THIS weekend, June 13th and 14th! The awful news is that I’m going to be out of town, otherwise I would be there faster than you can sweep on mascara. If you’re dying to go, be sure to enter to win two tickets, one for you and one for a friend at the bottom of this post so you can indulge in beauty product heaven for me! If you can’t make it but still want to be on the up and up when it comes to makeup trends this summer, you’re going to love James’ tips below!
1. Metallic Eyes
One of my favorite trends for summer is the metallic eye. Metallic shadows are easy to wear for every skin tone. MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic Eye Shadow, NARS Cream Eyeshadow, and Smashbox Limitless 15 Hour Wear Cream Shadow have rich bronzes, cool coppers or beautiful golden tones that work on anyone and stay put even in heat and humidity.
Winged liner is back and beautiful. For a sexy summer makeup look try MAKE UP FOR EVER Graphic Liner, Kevyn Aucoin Precision Liquid Liner, or Crown Brush Studio Glam Liner for soft kitten liner looks that work for day or night.
3. Blush is back.
4. Bold Lips
It’s all about the lips this summer. Dare to go unexpectedly dark this summer with bold burgundy and berry shades like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Black in Dahlia, INGLOT Cosmetics Matte Lipstick no. 412, or Ellis Faas lip color in Oxblood.
5. Set it and forget it.
Lastly, another great trend to help hold everything in place in summer’s heat and humidity is to use a setting spray like Model in a Bottle Original Makeup Setting Spray or Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray to set your makeup without powder.
