Okay, so I know this is a break from the traditional top 3 shows, but I’m with A– Milan Fashion Week didn’t pack the fashion punch that it usually does. I just kept bracing for impact all week long only to come out of the style-bomb shelter unscathed and a little disappointed. However, instead of being wowed by the shows themselves, there were a few standout design concepts that each show held. Without further adieu, these are my top 5 looks:

1. Furs at Fendi

We’ve been talking for weeks now about the resurgence in popularity of furs, and nearly every show has had a few fur looks. However, Fendi’s show contained some of the most unusual and beautiful fur coats I’ve ever seen. Lagerfield really hit the nail on the head with his take on decadent sportswear.

2. Pucci, all grown up.

That’s not to say that Pucci designs aren’t decidedly grown up, but this season they chucked their boho vibe out of the window. The looks were tailored and refined and still so, so sexy. The prints were traditional Pucci prints, but a bit darker and sexier. I would be thrilled with any of these looks in my wardrobe.

3. Velvet and Richness at Alberta Ferretti

I’m such a sucker for velvet. I guess that’s what happens when you grow up in the 1990s. Anyway, this show produced a couple of really rich looks with those super saturated jewel tones we mentioned in both New York and London. I just think this dress is so demure, and the velvet boots are the perfect finishing touch.

4. Armani Evening-wear

I felt there was a major lack of stunning evening-wear in Milan this year, which is really really disappointing. I was so happy to discover that at the last moment, Giorgio Armani saved the day with some intricate evening looks. I loved all of the detailed beading and stitching and just purred all through the last half of the show. These are some of my favorites:

5. Something different at Missoni

Missoni is one of my favorite designers. Angela and Margharita always impress me, as they are always pushing the boundaries of the brand. I personally avoid pastels, or at least I rarely wear them. But this year, Angela Missoni decided to take the entire color palette into sherbet-world. Usually, these colors would look cloyingly sweet and girly together, but mixed with the menswear tailored jackets, coats, pants, and the almost grungy oversized sweaters and chiffon maxi skirts, this collection at least went somewhere I’ve never seen before. I like being pushed.
