Dear Issa,

Tomorrow you will be five months old! It blows my mind that it’s already been almost half a year since you arrived, and I feel like I’ve known you forever.  You are just the easiest, cutest little thing, and I am so happy to be your mama.  These days you are scooting around in circles when you’re on your tummy, and I think you’ll be crawling before too long.  You’re also a huge eater still, and gaining weight like a champ.  Our nursing relationship is going strong, but I’m excited to start offering you some solids in about a month or so.  Not that it will deter your appetite at all, but at least it will give you a new experience.  And give me the slightest of breaks!

The most amazing thing I’ve noticed about you in the past month is your hand-eye coordination.  I can’t remember if Cora was the same way, but it is really startling to me to see how easily you are able to see something, reach for it, and grab it on the first try.  Just yesterday I was holding you and you noticed my dangly earrings, took one look at them, and snatched them up into your chubby little hands.  It was less cute when you then tried to yank them into your mouth while they were still attached to my ear, but I can’t believe how quickly you’ve caught on to this concept of reaching and grabbing.  Maybe it’s just because I’m your mom, but I think you’re above average in that capacity. 😉

One of my favorite things about you right now is your “laugh”.  You like to let out these little grunts when you’re excited or tickled about something, and it’s as if you can’t quite get the hang of a full on belly laugh but you want us to know you’re loving whatever is happening at the moment.  You also keep your eye on your big sister at all times, and if I’m holding you and she’s walking behind us you’ll just smile and giggle the whole time, fascinated by her every move.

You’re easily fitting into 6-9 month clothing already, if not bigger, and we’re going through your sister’s stash of gently used clothes pretty quickly.  This dress that you’re in today was a gift from your Aunt Kelsey to Cora, and now it fits you perfectly, too.  Speaking of which, your family in Indiana loves to FaceTime with you, and you smile just as easily for a face on the iPhone as you do for one in person.  Pretty much people just have to look at you, any time, any where, and you’ll flash them a gummy grin.  Yep, you’re still toothless, but I keep expecting one to pop out any day now.  We shall see!

Love you to the moon and back, my little one, always and forever!

XO,

A
