Super Easy DIY Non-Candy Valentines

You may have noticed that you rarely see crafts or DIY projects here at Haute in Texas.  That’s because it is so far from my forte, it really would be an insult to the magnificent bloggers out there who can make burlap look like fine art.  But Valentine’s Day is the one time each year when every mother is forced to whip out the curling ribbon and put together 12 little packages of magic for their children’s classmates.  Multiply 12 by however many kids you have, and it can get a little overwhelming.  This was the first year Cora was having an exchange with her school, and I was able to slowly piece together my concept over the course of a couple weeks so it wasn’t horrendously stressful.

I knew I wanted her valentines to be non-candy, easy, and a little bit whimsical.  I stumbled upon some silly straws with mustache (notice the actual card uses the non-U.S. spelling of moustache – thank you Grammarist.com for the clarification) decorations at Party City one day while shopping for Cora’s birthday and scooped them up.  You can find them on their website here.  I don’t know if the mustache craze is over yet, but they were adorable and there were exactly 12 of them, so it was a no-brainer.

Then I found cellophane bags in the Target dollar section, but you can find some similar here.  And they’re Amazon Prime eligible so you could still get them in time for Valentine’s Day if you hurry!  I just dropped in some Honest Kids Certified Organic Fruit Quencher in Superfruit Punch (because I like to pretend that we eat all organic around here), tied them off, and voila! Easy peasy!  If I wanted to get more complicated crafty, I could have tied on a cuter ribbon, or added some confetti, but simple is more my style.

Cora was so proud to help put them together, and she walked in to school with her head held high to deliver them to her little friends.  Have I mentioned how much I love this kid?  If you’re wondering how I manage to have such a happy child in the morning for these photos, I bribed her with watching Octonauts if she smiled for mommy’s camera.  Yup, that’s the kind of mom I am.  Happy love day to you and yours, I hope it’s a day filled with tender moments, fun surprises, and lots of mushy gushy love stuff.  It’s the best!

Valentine's Day!

XO,

A
