Marc Jacobs has perennially made himself known as NYFW’s most consistent showman. This year’s Fall/Winter show was no exception. With a set that looked like Dr. Seuss got ahold of Versailles, from beginning to end, this show was one of Jacob’s most creative. The clothes, shoes and accessories gave off a Pilgrim-meets-Eliza Doolittle-meets- Alice in Wonderland vibe. How does one make that happen? Lets start from the top and work our way down. The hats, made of multicolored minks and oversized in stature, looked ready for a Mad Hatter’s tea party at Downton Abbey. The clothes were a mashup of layers- from oversized skirts and dresses (re: padded hips ladies, get ready!) to knit shawls secured with oversized safety pins, scarves decked with tinsel and glitter, dizzying and eccentric large prints and heavy wool mini capes. It was literally everything but the kitchen sink. Jacob’s restraint in that area served him well. While the look is certainly quirky and over-the-top, what really resonates is that you can see yourself wearing the individual pieces, and them fitting well into your wardrobe.
