Today’s sponsored post is brought to you by Disney Channel and Latina Bloggers Connect! Having daughters who are Latina has been both surprising and enlightening for me. In parenting Cora and Issa, we have tried to speak Spanish with them, travel in Latin America, and expose them to wondrous culture that runs in their blood. Our Latin “village” for raising our two princesses is about to get a whole lot bigger, though, when Disney Channel’s brand new series, Elena of Avalor, premieres on July 22nd at 7pm EST/ 6pm CST on Disney Channel AND Disney Junior! Watch party, anyone?!

If a Twitter party is more your style, join us Thursday, July 21st as we will be welcoming this brand new Latina Princess during the

To celebrate the upcoming premiere, we had a little tea party with the girls and Orlando while we’re staying here at my parent’s house for a few more days. To their Daddy’s credit, he has been excellent at taking on all Isabel and Elena Huggingthings girly girl and princess-inspired since becoming a father. His Latin roots of having a tough exterior but a tender heart are never more true than when he’s spending time with his daughters. We sipped on tea, fed our bears pretend cookies, and enjoyed an afternoon of Disney magic.

With this new princess, it won’t be hard to encourage Cora to speak Spanish, or to appreciate the beauty of Latin architecture. It’s all built right into the show, and I know she’ll take an animated character’s word over mine any day. I mean, Daniel Tiger has to sing a diddy about potty training ONCE, and Cora was on board. I say it 5000 times and don’t get the same response! So for the girls to be able to look up to Elena of Avalor as a role model and source of inspiration will be so meaningful to our family!

Elena of Avalor

I’m so excited for them to see the new series with Elena of Avalor, and perhaps even more so because it features two Latina sisters, Elena and Isabel. It may seem silly, but it’s important to me that Cora and Issa see girls on television who look like them. Who are strong, independent, adventurous girls who also happen to have a beautiful skin tone with dark hair and eyes.  Of course, at this point Issa has blonde hair and blue eyes, but I guess what’s really important is they see and appreciate all shades, all colors, all types of people. It makes me so happy that Disney is totally on board with this too, and making an effort to show diversity in their shows!

If you’re a Latina mom or blogger and you want to join in the discussion about this new princess and her pioneering ways, join the Latina Bloggers Connect Twitter party on Thursday, July 21, 2015, 5pm PST / 8pm EST!
