I’ve officially been a mom now for 4 months, and I can tell you, it’s not the easiest thing to keep up with your own appearance when you’re wiping someone else’s behind 10-12 times a day.  And as it turns out, I’ve noticed society doesn’t think too highly of mommy style either: we’ve got terms like mom jeans, and mom haircut, for example.  So here’s my tips to avoid looking like this:

And instead look like this:

1.  Plan ahead.

Gone are the days when I can just stand in front of my closet and aimlessly search for something to wear.  Now I try to start thinking while I’m doing my makeup, or even in the shower, so the getting dressed part takes no time at all.  When you’ve got that perfect (preferably clean) outfit already in your mind, it shaves precious minutes off your routine.

2.  Comfy trumps couture.

My requirements for tops have changed drastically since having a baby: they now need to be figure flattering, not skin tight.  They should be nursing-friendly, not stiff and structured.  They must be easily swapped in and out should a case of spit-up rear it’s ugly head before we walk out the door.  Shopping with those criteria in mind saves me time, and money.

3.  No pressure!

I try my best not too set too high of standards for myself.  Yes, I go to the grocery store in workout clothes.  No, I don’t wear high heels as much (who  are we kidding, I never wore them before).  But that’s ok because I have the most adorable arm candy ever now, and she’s going to be looking cute even if I don’t.  Worth it? 110%.
