They say youth is wasted on the young.  That’s certainly not the case with San Antonio native Lauren Nicole, who is about to debut her Spring/Summer 2016 collection this evening at the tender age of 15.  Lauren sat down with Haute in Texas to discuss her favorite fabric to work with and the celebrity she’d most like to dress someday.  She’s a stellar example of going after what you want, no matter what your age.  For more information about her and how to view her collection this evening, be sure to scroll to the bottom of the interview for more details!

Haute in Texas: Hi Lauren! Thanks for chatting with us.  First of all, what’s your design process like?

Lauren Nicole: It is a combination of things: I started out by brainstorming, by choosing what I would like people to get out of the line, colors, inspiration such as places, activities, or people who I design for. Where/how do you begin a collection? I started with one main idea, one focal piece and then branched out in complementing designs. This collection includes many pieces that can be worn together or separate. I like versatility.

HIT: If you could have dinner with one designer, dead or alive, who would it be?

LN: CoCo Chanel, because I would have so many questions for her… like why she wanted to change the fashion style of her time. She pioneered the short dress.

HIT: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

LN: I see myself as a experienced and well known designer showing at Fashion Week in New York City and having a successful clothing line.

HIT: How has San Antonio influenced your style?

LN: Because of Fiesta and all the festivities here in Texas, I have learned how to and feel comfortable wearing bright colors year around.

HIT: Who would you say has been the biggest influence in your life so far?

Lauren Nicole Spring/Summer 2016

LN: My Family, because they have never left my side and have always supported my dreams and what I want to do.

HIT: If you could pick one celebrity or top model to wear your designs, who would you choose?

LN: Selena Gomez, she has been one of my favorites musicians and actresses since I was 7. She has grown into such a beautiful woman, and has self confidence that every girl would love to have.

HIT: What’s your favorite type of fabric to work with? Favorite color? Pattern?

LN: I love Tulle, it is the harder fabric to work with but you can find it in every color imaginable, and who doesn’t like a tutu? Favorite color? Any Shade of Pink: right now Blush Pink and Hot Pink, I just got some really awesome Hot Pink Heels for this weekend’s fashion show. Pattern? I love Polka Dots, because they are just super super cute, although I wear a lot of stripes.

HIT: Name one thing every girl should have in her closet this fall.

LN: A Mustard or muted Yellow button up Sweater. They go great over a dress, or with a tee, leggings, and knee high riding boots.

HIT: If you could eliminate one trend from fashion so that no woman could ever wear it again, what would it be?

LN: Kitten Heels, because they are too high to be considered flats and to low to be considered heels, and they do nothing for your legs.

HIT: Finally, an Haute in Texas tradition, pancakes or waffles?

LN: Waffles… specifically Bananas and Cream Belgian Waffles from Ihop.
