Beachfront Baby

Mother’s Day.  That one set of 24 hours that we’re supposed to catch a break every year.  We get breakfast in bed, no chores, no responsibilities, and we may even get to go to the bathroom by ourselves. But, if we’re really being honest, we might just skip the potted plants and ask for something grander. Something bigger. Something that might even be considered outlandish. This elusive gift, my fellow mama friends, is an extra set of hands. And while it’s still scientifically impossible to attach another pair of digits to yourself to make loading the dishes while simultaneously holding a baby on one’s hip easier, I have the absolute next best thing: Beachfront Baby Wraps.

There’s a million reasons I love Beachfront baby wraps, but here’s the quick 411, because I know you’re a busy mom and someone, somewhere is probably screaming your name right now to refill a sippy cup and make more Cheerios appear out of thin air:

They’re locally made by a fellow mama. My friend Diane has been making Beachfront Baby wraps and slings since 2010, and I’ve so enjoyed watching her grow this business into a wildly popular brand. She also employs additional local mamas to help with all aspects of her business, from web design to marketing, so there’s never been a better example of women supporting women.

(Side note: If the picture above isn’t absolute proof that I need an extra set of hands with my rather demonic-looking preschooler, I don’t know what is. 😉 )

They’re breathable and water-friendly. If you’re out in the summer heat, the light-as-air mesh fabric will make you feel like you’re not wearing anything at all. This means it’s PERFECT for summer vacations. If you’re headed to the beach or the pool, you can strap baby right in and wade into the H2O. Now that Cora is swimming without floaties, I like being able to have Issa with me in the big pool at our neighborhood recreation center so I still have my hands free to help Cora if necessary. How convenient is that?!

They’re a lifesaver for a newborn OR a mom of multiples. I distinctly remember a point during my maternity leave with Cora when I realized I had to get something done. Anything. I had a baby who wouldn’t let me put her down and a to-do list that wouldn’t stop growing. So I strapped her into a wrap and immediately felt a sense of relief. She could nap, she could be close to mama, and I could actually accomplish something with my day. Then once I had Issa, I needed to be able to juggle Cora’s needs with, once again, a newborn who didn’t want to be away from her mama. I need my hands free, and Beachfront Baby makes it easy as pie.

They’re eco-friendly and sustainably made. The company has just started releasing their wraps in 100% recycled materials. That’s good for the Earth, and it’s good for my conscience. It’s also not being made in a factory a million miles away, it’s helping support a small business and being distributed responsibly.

So is there a downside? Honestly, not really.  It took me a little while to get used to the wrap, but it’s not as lengthy as other brands and the stretchy material is just enough to be comfortable, but not so much that I don’t feel secure.  I prefer the wrap style because I like Issa centered on my body, but Beachfront Baby also makes slings if that’s more your jam.  And seriously, I cannot stress enough how amazing it is to have my “extra set of hands” with babywearing.  Whether I’m wearing Issa through the airport, or on a quick Target run, my life is so much easier when I can strap her to me and go.
