SeaWorld San AntonioSeaWorld San Antonio

Last week if you were tuned in to social media, you probably saw that we took the girls to SeaWorld here in San Antonio for a day of fun. Yes, my friends, we braved summer temperatures in South Texas to go outside. The amazing team at SeaWorld invited our family to come out for a day to experience their water park, animal exhibits, and (most exciting to me) their brand new roller coaster called WAVEBREAKER. It’s a jet ski-style ride, with top speeds of 44 mph, but the purpose behind the ride is the coolest part to me.

Each riding experience starts off with the riders receiving a mission. We had to save some dolphins stranded off shore. The roller coaster then launches you into the ride, where you find out afterwards that your mission is complete. Dolphins safe! Hooray! It’s a cute and simple way to convey the mission of SeaWorld, which is exciting in and of itself! Once my thirst for adrenaline was officially worn out, it was time for Aquatica! Our family is not particularly outdoorsy, so sitting in a cool pool of water was just what the doctor ordered! I love that they have multiple areas within the water park devoted to toddler fun, so my littles aren’t just being trampled by older kids the entire time.

SeaWorld also offers manta ray petting sessions and seal feeding experiences, which my girls were equal parts terrified and thrilled to take part in. We can watch Octonauts all day long, but actually feeling the slippery smooth skin of a stingray just can’t be beat. While Orlando played with the girls and I relaxed by the pool, I started thinking about how lucky we are to live this life.

We spent a random Thursday at SeaWorld together as a family because we’ve chosen to do things a bit unconventionally. We’ve been swimming upstream, creating a life we love, and being…well, wavebreakers. Somehow it was reassuring to be sitting there, watching Cora and Issa laugh and play, knowing that at the very least we’re getting TIME with them. Maybe someday they’ll grow up to save dolphins. I’m just happy to see them break their own waves.

XO,

A
