Doesn’t that sound like the title of a great novel or something? The Woodlands is well-known in Texas for their planned community, well-manicured lawns, and top-notch golf courses, but we now know them for their family-friendly resort as well! Situated amongst the trees and rolling hills of suburban Houston, we arrived at The Woodlands Resort this past Friday ready for a weekend of unplugged family time. Shockingly, we realized mid-way into our short road trip that this was our first family vacation sans extended family members!

Traveling with just our littly family unit was surprisingly smooth, with Issa sleeping almost the entire way and Cora enjoying Zootopia on her iPad. Honestly, how did parents do road trips before technology? As we pulled in to the resort, though, Cora found there were much more exciting things outside her window as we spied families on bikes, headed to the pool, and enjoying a late afternoon stroll. My biggest fear with resorts is wondering if they’re truly “family-friendly”, but I can tell you that is most definitely the case with The Woodlands.

We checked into our room to find perhaps the greatest surprise of the weekend – milk and a cookie cake for the kiddos, and wine for mom and dad! Hallelujah!

My trip was made even sweeter by an appointment at the spa for a Swedish massage! I was in the expert hands of Ruth, who found at least 1000 knots in my back and shoulders, but worked out each one with a magic touch. The spa also features high-end products, so every scent and solution is purposeful and perfect. I was in heaven!

Another benefit to the kid-friendly atmosphere at The Woodlands was the menu for each and every restaurant. There are several on the property to choose from, but no matter where we dined we found a savory menu for the adults, and an accommodating menu for the little ones. That meant everybody was happy at the end of the day, and you really can’t ask for more!

Our trip, just the four of us, meant the kids were able to get one on one time with Mom and Dad at varying hours of the day. Issa would be sleeping with me, so Orlando would take Cora to the pool to swim. Then Issa would want to burn off some energy at the pool-side dance party with Orlando, so Cora and I would just stay in the kiddie pool to splash. It was so much fun to have that flexibility, and with plenty of programming from the resort staff we were never bored. The hours flew by and before we knew it Sunday morning had arrived. It was time to go home, and I’d be lying if I said the only tears shed were from the little ones.

We let the girls sleep in, and Orlando and I actually woke up early and had some quiet time to ourselves. He’s been really into this crazy game, Monopoly Deal, lately, so we played a few rounds like complete dorks while Cora and Issa snoozed away. It is an addicting game, so if you’ve got some trips or undivided family time coming up I highly recommend it!
