When we visited my sister before the arrival of Miss Sloan, I knew we would have a little bit of time to kill before baby made her debut. It was the perfect chance to get to know the city she’s living in now, and experience a true fall, unlike what we ever achieve in San Antonio. There were actually leaves to rake, coats to wear, and apples to pick! We made our way one Sunday afternoon to a quaint family operation called Beak & Skiff Orchards with my very pregnant sister in tow. The girls had been to a pumpkin patch before, but this would be their first time in an apple orchard!

Our first stop within the farm grounds was the cafe, of course. Beak & Skiff boasts the most amazing apple bread, apple donuts, and apple cider, so we sampled all while munching on a delicious lunch. We then headed over to the general store, where the girls found a kid’s section to get lost in and we even discovered a beekeeping section where we watched busy honeybees behind their glass home.  Despite it being a bit chilly for my Texas blood’s liking, the girls didn’t even seem to notice! The entire orchard was so well designed and laid out, it made for a perfect stroll.

Our next stop was the children’s playground, conveniently located at the entrance of the orchard. That way the little ones had some time to burn off a little energy before the real work of apple picking began! We browsed row after row of apple trees just bursting with fresh produce, and may have taken a bite or two to sample the options. 😉 Issa was hilarious picking up every apple from the ground and fervently insisting that THESE were the ones we had to take home. Cora loved helping Nana on the ladder to pick from the highest spots. And my sister, while she didn’t go into labor, got some good walking in to help move things along. It was such a wonderful experience and so crazy to think it was one of the last memories we’ll have without Sloan earthside!

What are your favorite fall activities? If you live in the South like us, is there anything you miss from colder weather up North?

A
