If you spend your Friday nights darning socks and crocheting little hats for babies, you can pretty much skip right past today’s article and go back to your perfectly crafty life. Sorry… I’m just jealous.
If you’re like me, on the other hand, and have never sewed, knit, or bedazzled a piece of fabric in your life, stay tuned. There won’t be much bedazzling, but this new Do-It-Yourself Collective has got me so excited I just had to share. The idea came from the fabulous mind of Indiana Adams at Adored Austin, a lovely style blogger who, like me, was sitting around, hoping to someday find the time to create one-of-a-kind pieces for her wardrobe. Out of this dilemma, Made This/Love This was born. Just check out the adorable logo!

This site was created at midnight on March 25, 2011 by Indiana Adams.
I am currently in beta, just trying out the project to see if it catches on. Here’s the premise:
1. DIY is fun, but it’s a lot more fun in a group.
2. On the first and 15th of the month, a new project will go live. Each project will remain live for 30 days, after which it will be archived.
3. In the 30 days while the project is live, you are invited to complete it and submit a snapshot of you wearing your new creation for consideration for the showcase.
4. Of those chosen for the showcase, one will be chosen as the winner at the project’s close!In the future, we hope to have a virtual points system. You’d get points for your involvement in the online community and the local communities (a big goal of ours is to create Made This/ Love This meet-up groups all over the country). These points will be redeemable for actual goods! We also hope to bring on some amazing brands who will offer members exclusive discounts and prizes.
Things will be constantly changing over here as I try to figure out how to best get this site to do everything I want it to do. In the meantime, please join! It’s free (and will always be free) and our first project is already live!
