You guys, 1987 was a great year. Probably the best year in the history of the universe. Whitney Houston’s “I wanna dance with somebody” was the number one song in the world, a gallon of milk was just $1.98, and it just so happens I was born in June of that glorious turn around the sun. Let’s face it, though, the 80’s were an amazing decade from start to finish and it’s effects are still seen today in fashion, music, and pop culture. I only wish I would’ve been around for more than just three years of it.
The San Antonio Current apparently has a similar love for this time period, so they’re hosting their huge Cocktail party at The Doseum on July 22nd in honor of the ’80’s. And guess what?! They asked myself and my girl Tori of The sTORIbook to host their Fashion Lounge! We’re talking photo booths, hair and makeup bars, and costume contests of course, complete with a runway! We want you to BRING IT, so we decided to kick things off with a little photo shoot of our own!
Please note we are fully aware we look ridiculous, but who can resist going all out with a theme as ubiquitous as the ’80’s?! This is the age of big hair, poofy sleeves, neon colors, and a whole lot of rad. We picked up the majority of our outfits at Party City, so there’s no excuses! Check Etsy, check thrift stores, even Amazon has a whole host of looks for next to nothing! We even found this really cool radio from a new friend named Karen, who was kind enough to let us borrow it for the afternoon. And was this wall by The Paint Yard perfect for our shoot aesthetic, or was it perfect? HUGE thanks to Tori’s photographer, Candace of Rememory Photography, for being up for an adventure and totally getting our vision!
