Next week, a feast for the eyes and soul will begin in New York City, kicking off an entire month of Fashion Weeks in London, Milan, and Paris thereafter.  It’s the best time of the year to be a fashion lover, and the best part is with today’s advances in technology it’s no longer a month that takes place behind closed doors and only for industry big wigs.  You can watch virtually (no pun intended) every show from the comfort of your couch if you please.  Even if you’re not an aspiring model or designer, Fashion Month is a great time to be alive, and there are five reasons you should be participating no matter where you are:

1) The art.

This is walking, moving, art in the form of fabric and embroidery.  Designers have poured their blood, sweat, and tears into making these shows a reality, and it’s a thing of beauty.  It may all be over in eight minutes, but it’s a thrilling eight minutes nonetheless.

2) The street style.

Outside the shows, just as much magic can be on display as well.  The famous faces of Instagram and your favorite blogs will be strutting their stuff for the cameras, and you’ll see how fashion translates to the real world, in the most inspiring way possible.

3) The supermodels.

Who will open for Chanel? Who will be left out in the cold this year? Who will make a name for themselves? Fashion month is like watching a high school popularity contest play out in real time, and it’s fascinating to see the transformation these girls take on for the sake of a designer’s vision.

4) The trends.

You will be seeing the ripple effects from each designer’s creations pass through the fashion industry for years to come.  If you want to know what the fast fashion giants will have on their shelves next season, just watch Prada, Céline, and all the other top notch designers who are making magic for the rest of the world to copy.

5) The spectacle.

Lavish parties, celebrities in the front row, Kanye West releasing his new album on the same day as his runway show.  Fashion Month is what pop culture is made of.  Even if you don’t know how to darn a pair of socks, you will be able to appreciate the high society and high fashion taking place right before your eyes.
